| In 1970, about
(80) graduate teachers assembled at the university of cape
coast to discuss the possibility the possibility of forming
a separate union form the Ghana National Association of Teachers
.
This was because almost all the leaders of
GNAT at that time were non –graduate teachers. The Graduate
Teachers were not happy with rends of events.
I was then teaching at the Presbyterian training college,
Akropaon i want to put on record that I was vehement against
the decision to break away . After a very lengthy and hot
debate we unanimously agreed to remain with the mother union
GNAT.
This goes to explain the fact that the idea
of an Association of Graduate Teachers started some thirty
–six (36) year ago.We decided at cape coast to remain
and build up GNAT.
In fact our remaining with GNAT has helped in my many ways
we are were instrumental in the formation of the Ghana Education
Service.
We also assisted the association to chalk
many successes for teachers it is therefore sad that the current
NAGRAT is throwing dust into the eyes of the people of this
country it is my wish that the leadership of GNAT will do
all within their power to keep the membership intact and continue
to organize workshop particularly on GNAT to let then members
know much about the association land it stands for.
Thank you
