The Ghana National
Association of Teachers' struggle to appeal to the government
to support teachers on distance education programme, has borne
some fruit. A release from the Ministry of Education, Science
and Sports, signed by Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State
indicates that during this 2007/2008 academic year, every
teacher who is a final year student at the Universities of
Cape Coast and Winneba pursuing distance education programme
is to be supported to the tune of three hundred Ghana cedis.
The release assures that, this is an on-going
programme to cover other category of teachers. Currently,
a total of four thousand, five hundred and sixty (4,560) final
year students in the Universities of Cape Coast and Winneba
are offering distance education programmes.
